Khoisan Tea offers capsule-grade Rooibos and blends, meets popular growing global trend

Single-serve capsules continue to take the global tea and coffee markets by storm.

During a presentation at this year’s World Tea Expo in North America, Dan Bolton, President Mystic Media/Tea Biz blog & Managing Editor of STIR Tea & Coffee International, said, “Beverage makers will ship some 14 billion capsules this year with approximately 71% consisting of coffee capsules and 20% consisting of tea capsules. Consumer trends in the UK, USA and Japan are seeing more and more individuals buying single-serve pods or capsules over bagged/loose teas.” Bolton also stated that “tea in capsules will account for 10% of all bagged and loose leaf sales in the US this year, up from 6.5% just two years ago… and growing at a much faster pace than coffee.”

Khoisan Tea understands this growing trend and offers capsule-grade Rooibos and blends in bulk loose format and in capsules for private label purposes. Says Tobias Gress, General Manager, “We have put a lot of time and effort into understanding the requirements to make the best possible infusion grade for excellent Rooibos espressos, cappuccinos, lattes and more. Our Rooibos capsule-grade offers strong taste, good colour and we can also flavour and blend for delicious variants such as Rooibos Caramel, Rooibos Chai and other herbal blends.”

Our capsule-grade Rooibos in loose format is ideal for further on-packing into capsules while our ready capsules can work for specific systems of capsules in a variety of single-serve coffee makers, Nespresso® and/or the Keurig Licensed K-cup® systems.

Distinctly sweet and earthy in taste, ruby-red in colour and with a delicious créma topping (foam created through pressurised brewing), Rooibos capsules differ from traditional Rooibos Tea in that they offer a more intense concentrated Rooibos taste. It’s a chic and ‘new’ way to drink Rooibos any time of the day or night. It packs a punch in taste and remains most trendy.

V-Sell discovered Rooibos’ great taste and benefits via South African organic producer Khoisan Tea almost 15 years ago. “Initially,” says Daniel Långsten, CEO V-Sell, “we imported the Khoisan Tea brand by the pallet. As the market began to appreciate Khoisan Tea’s distinct, high quality organic Rooibos and organic Bourbon Vanilla products, we began to import containers. Rooibos Tea sales in Sweden have increased by almost 500% over the last five years alone….and now going forward we have an interesting array of brand new organic products from Khoisan Tea as well.”

Visit the V-Sell exhibition stand right at the main entrance and meet with Daniel Långsten and his team, inclusive of Khoisan Tea’s Berit Elmau, International Sales from South Africa.

Make a tasty, truly South African recipe

Milk Tart is one of South Africa's favourite desserts, dating as far back as the 1600's when the first Dutch settlers made the Cape their home. It is as classic as it is simple - a pastry or biscuit base filled with a creamy custard which is then baked and dusted with cinnamon. We decided to put a twist on this classic and infused the custard mixture with our very own Rooibos Tea.

1 pack       Bakers Tennis biscuits (or any digestive biscuit, 200g)

125ml        Butter, melted

1 litre         Milk, full cream

1                Cinnamon stick, whole

12              Khoisan Tea Rooibos tea bags

120ml        Castor sugar

90ml          Cake flour

30ml          Corn flour

Pinch         Salt

60ml          Butter

6                Egg yolks

Cinnamon powder for dusting

Preheat your oven to 200ºC / 390ºF.

Using your food processor, blitz the Tennis biscuits into fine crumbs, add the melted butter and pulse until combined. Push the mixture into the bottom and sides of a greased 26cm / 10in tart base and place in the refrigerator to set.

Bring the milk, cinnamon stick and Rooibos teabags to the boil and set aside to cool and infuse for at least 30 minutes. In a bowl combine the sugar, flour, corn flour, egg yolks and salt together. Strain the cooled milk mixture into the sugar / flour mixture and combine well. Cook over a low heat until the mixture thickens, stirring continuously. Once the mixture starts thickening, take off the heat and stir in the butter.

Slowly pour the mixture into the tart base and bake for approximately 15 minutes. Lower heat to 180ºC / 356ºF and bake for a further 5 minutes, or until the centre wobbles ever so slightly.

Allow to cool, dust with cinnamon and serve with a delicious cup of Khoisan Rooibos Tea.
